CoTeSys (Cognition for Technical Systems) has been selected as a
Cluster of
Excellence in the German government's excellence initiative. In order
to
complement existing research strengths in the participating Image
Understanding and Intelligent Autonomous Systems groups, we are seeking
several outstanding researchers to fill newly opened positions at the
level
of:

- Postdoctoral researchers
- doctorate students
- exchange researchers and
- short-term guest researchers (3-6 months)

The applicants should have a very strong research background, interest,
and
experience in at least one of the following areas:

- knowledge processing and learning applied to autonomous robot
control
(with an emphasis on relational learning methods),
- plan-based control of robotic agents/AI planning
(in particular Lisp-based robot control systems), and
- cognitive image processing and understanding/perception
(in particular: activity recognition and scene
recognition for robotic grasping, 3d mapping, and manipulation
tasks
in natural environments).

The successful candidates will work within the CoTeSys cluster of
excellence. The overall objective of CoTeSys is to develop and apply
cognitive mechanisms to various technical systems (factory, vehicles,
humanoids) in real-world scenarios. CoTeSys brings together
top-researchers
from several institutes and organizations: TUM (Technische Universitaet
Muenchen), LMU (Ludwig-Maximillian Universitaet), UniBW (Bundeswehr
Muenchen
Universitaet), DLR (Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft und Raumfahr/German
Aerospace Center) and MPI (Max-Planck Institute).

Proficiency in written/spoken English is mandatory.

TUM is striving to increase the number of female researchers and
encourages
women to apply. Preference will be given to handicapped applicants if
equally qualified.

Applications should be sent to:

Sabine Wiegert
Computer Science Department IX
Technische Universitaet Muenchen
Boltzmannstr. 3, 85748, Garching b. Muenchen, Germany

or via e-mail to: open-jobs-i9@cs.tum.edu
