In addition to this great newsgroup, can anyone please give links to
what you consider are the best and most active (non-newsgroup) robotics
related discussion forums on the net.

--Well there are several on Yahoo and at least one on Tribe, but I
think the most active forum might be the one over at parallax.com.

Ditty what Ed sez. There's also the mailing list on dprg.org, which also
has a Web interface for browsing. It's a list for a local user's group
(1500+ miles from me!), but it's fairly active.

There are quite a number of forums around the net but probably the
widest range of contributors and subjects remains to be here. The
benefit of other forums comes from either locality of the forum or
specialism.

Locality can bring the advantage of meeting with your peers and gaining
knowledge face to face. Where as the specialism can draw global interest
on the minority topics.

For my "local" I'd always recommend www.robotbuilder.co.uk/forum
unfortunately there's no benefit of meetings but there lots of local
supply knowledge. Thereafter my forums of interest relate to the micro
controllers. They have a wealth of useful tips and tricks that can be
applied to robot building.

best regards,
Colin

The Seattle Robotics Society http://www.seattlerobotics.org/ has a
fairly active mailing list on Yahoo (you can view online or receive via
email).

They also have an excellent archive of articles in the Encoder:
